Medway NHS Foundation Trust has received a staggering donation of £5,095 for the Galton Day Unit at Medway Maritime Hospital in memory of former patient Elizabeth Cooper.
Elizabeth spent a long time visiting the unit and her family wanted to do something more to help and show their appreciation. Therefore they asked for donations to support the team and this enabled the Trust to purchase a vein finder which is a valuable piece of equipment used to treat patients who receive chemotherapy.
Nicola Keena, Senior Sister, Galton day Unit, said: “When administering chemotherapy to a patient who has received a lot of chemotherapy before, it is hard to find veins which are usable.
”This results in a lot of discomfort and extra unneeded stress which could be eliminated with a vein finder. We only had one machine between two units, so this is already making a huge difference to our patients’ experience.”
The family have also purchased a memorial bench, bird feeder and other items for the garden area at the hospital.
