Fundraiser in Memory of Andrew Ralph to Support ICU Staff

A grateful family is holding a darts’ fundraiser to thank staff in the Intensive Care Unit at Medway Maritime Hospital for their exceptional care.

The event has been organised by Jesamine Ralph in memory of her late father, Andrew Ralph, who died in February 2023.

Andrew, who was unknowingly suffering from diverticulitis, faced serious complications that led him to the Intensive Care Unit.

Jesamine reflects on the circumstances leading to his death, emphasising the importance of early medical intervention.

“For years, my dad was reluctant to discuss his symptoms with a doctor. This stubbornness led him to the ICU, where he fought valiantly for his life. The sepsis, however, was too aggressive, resulting in multi-organ failure,” she shared.

Despite the tragic outcome, Jesamine expresses immense gratitude for the ICU staff, describing them as “beyond amazing.”

She said, “The staff in the ICU were considerate, empathetic, and respectful throughout their long and high-pressure shifts. Their ability to provide such compassionate care, despite the emotional toll their job must take, is truly commendable.”

In honour of the care her stepfather received, the darts’ fundraising tournament aims to give back to the dedicated ICU team. She said. “They treated my dad with respect and dignity, and I want to show my appreciation for their incredible work.”

The event will also serve as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of seeking medical attention for persistent symptoms. “By speaking up about your symptoms, tragic endings and heartache like ours can be avoided.” she said.

Anyone is invited to this special darts event, celebrating the memory of Andrew Ralph, and supporting the ICU staff who tirelessly serve patients and their families at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Join us in making a difference and honouring a beloved father’s memory.
