Hardworking NHS staff enjoy free lunch

Staff at Medway Maritime Hospital were delighted to receive a generous donation of a free lunch yesterday (Thursday 3 October), courtesy of global charity, Rapid Relief Team (RRT).

RRT, who have previously donated fans and bottles of water to staff and patients at the hospital, wanted to give something back to the Trust and decided to offer a free gourmet burger meal to staff. They worked closely with The Medway Hospital Charity to plan and deliver the event.

The team of 75 volunteers fired up their grills to cook and serve around 3,000 burger meals for very grateful staff, with 1,380 lunches being delivered to wards and departments for staff who were unable to leave their area.

Vern Pollard, Local Team leader for RRT, said, “We aim to help as many local charities as we can and we were really keen to return to the hospital after our visit this summer. The free lunch was a really good way of us saying a big thank you to all the hard-working staff of the NHS and we were delighted to see such a great turnout and so much appreciation for the meal.

“Hopefully we helped to brighten up an autumnal day and give them a special lunch which they wouldn’t normally receive.”

Cheryl Jones, Fundraising Officer at The Medway Hospital Charity, added: “Everyone at the hospital would like to say a huge thank you to RTT for the wonderful meal and their incredible generosity. So much work went in to the event, both on the day and beforehand and to serve thousands of delicious burgers within just a few hours is really impressive.

“Everyone loved the lunch and it was nice to see so many happy staff. We also raised a fantastic £1,379.25 for the hospital charity as a result of the generous donations made by those who took up the offer of the lunch.”
