Are you an adventurous fundraiser?

Leigh Mitchell competes in the Iron Man competition

We are seeking adventurous individuals to take on challenging pursuits to raise money for Medway Maritime Hospital!

The charity has places for a variety of challenges including an inflatable 5ka skydivehalf-marathons and dragon boat racing.

Motivated by the care her parents received at the hospital, Tracey Daniel, who works at the hospital’s Tiny Tugs Day Nursery, will be running The London Marathon on Sunday 21 April to raise money for The Medway Hospital Charity.

Tracey, who won a ballot place in the 26.2-mile race, said: “I’m raising money for Medway Maritime Hospital because they help everyone who needs them. They have supported my Dad during cancer treatment and my Mum during her two strokes.

“Showing appreciation for the help that my parents and others have received is something I want to do and raising money for our hospital charity allows me to do this.”

Last year, money raised for the charity helped fund bright new ceiling tiles for our Children’s Emergency Department that help entertain and calm young patients during their time in hospital.

Leigh Mitchell, who works in the hospital’s IT Team, took on the extraordinary Iron Man 70.3 Barcelona challenge last October raising more than £500 for the charity.

Leigh, who completed a 1.9 km swim, 90km cycle and a 21.1km half marathon run in an incredible six hours, six minutes and 25 seconds, said: “Working at Medway Maritime Hospital means I have seen the good work that goes on and how much it does for the community.

“I wanted the challenge of doing an Ironman 70.3 anyway so I thought I would take the opportunity to raise some money at the same time for such a good cause.”

Helping to raise more than £16,000 as part of a 30-strong team, Donna Law, Manager of The Medway Hospital Charity, battled the elements to complete a challenging Snowdon at Night mountain trek in Wales last year.

Donna said: “It was an amazing achievement successfully climbing Snowdon at night in wet, windy and foggy weather. Everyone looked out for each other and, together, Team Medway accomplished something special.

“Participating, and raising money, alongside our supporters was an incredible feeling and our charity was really grateful for all the donations. The money raised has been used to benefit patients, staff and volunteers here at Medway Maritime Hospital.

“If you are thinking about your next challenge, why not take a look at the events we have coming up over the next few months and support a worthwhile cause?”
