Hospital staff thanked with incredible donation of 700 cakes

Staff at Medway Maritime Hospital were treated to a wonderful feast this week, thanks to Medway Council worker Jabeen Sethi who donated over 700 cakes to staff at the hospital.

Jabeen said: “I hold cake stalls for charity at work but due to the COVID-19 outbreak I was not able to do it. I am a social worker for Medway Council and our foster carers normally bake or donate cakes for my events. I organised the Cakes for Heroes event in recognition of the work that the NHS staff do, plus the huge contribution that foster carers make in looking after vulnerable children. We started with a target of 300 cakes but received over 700! They were all baked or donated by foster carers and their friends and families, which was overwhelming. I am so proud of what we achieved.”

Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Alan Jarrett, said: “I am extremely proud of the way Medway has come together as a community to tackle the coronavirus. We are seeing numerous examples of random acts of kindness and I would like to thank both Jabeen, from our fostering team, and our foster carers, who created more than 700 cakes to donate to our hospital heroes. We cannot thank all key workers enough for their continued hard work during these challenging times, including all the staff at Medway Maritime Hospital and our own council staff and foster carers.”
